#HERO: Meet The Opposition of Proposition 1 - Rev. Kendall Baker

"It offends me that the homosexuals compare their cause to that of black Americans. Homosexuality is a choice, but I was born black." - Baker

Just like I said to Philip Bryant: "One thing that I will not tolerate is being made to choose between my Blackness and being Gay, as neither are a choice. Some may disagree, but do take note that without Bayard Rustin and so many others, the civil rights movement of the 60s would look nothing like it did. The Black LGBT contributions to our Black community is undeniable!
During the back and forth of me and many others defending Prop 1, he and many others acted as if we were White and this was some sort of gay agenda. NEWS FLASH: I am NOT White and there is no gay agenda!"

I first ran across Rev. Kendall Baker during his infamous testimony against the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance. I was in the room when he said this:



Now he is running for Houston City Council District F against Incumbent Richard Nguyen on a campaign of Hate toward the LGBT and especially the Trans community. Here is a recent radio spot:

"I can’t believe we’re having a conversation about whether men should be allowed to go in women’s bathrooms, showers and locker rooms," Baker says in one of the ads. "The bathroom ordinance is shameful. It will allow men to freely walk into places where women are most vulnerable and violate their privacy. The Rev. Will Reed recently cut a radio commercial supporting this sickening ordinance. Let me be very clear about this: A real minister stands up for the safety of women.”

Baker is Senior Pastor of Christ Solid International Church, Dr and founder of Straight Up Ministries, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)3 geared towards ministry, caring for the needy, sheltering the homeless, employment consultant, motivational speaking and mentoring and empowerment of youth.

He is also a former City of Houston employee and this is what he has to say about that:

But did he really retire? It is my understanding that he was fired by the city for sexual harassment in not long before HERO came up for a vote. He was the subject of an investigation by the Office of Inspector General (OIG), and upon completion of that investigation it was found that baker had solicited sexual acts from female subordinates. The OIG concluded that Baker also made lewd comments, sexual advances,  and even solicited donations from them for his church.
