I, too, sing America.
I am the darker gay brother.
They ask me not to bring it up
When we are fighting for Civil
Rights
But I laugh,
And bring it up anyway
And stand strong
Today
I am at the table gay and all
While we are fighting for our
rights
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Don’t talk about being gay”
Now.
Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed—
I, too, am America.
